I have the trunk of an elephant
To scratch my back when it itches
And the stripes of a stately zebra
On the back of my furry britches
I have the stripes of a tiger
As never seen in the wide savannah
And the neck of a gentle giraffe
To reach the highest banana
You may laugh at me when you look
But I beg you sir, look closer
It would be to your detriment
To write me off as a poser
For who can reach as far below
Or as high in the trees as I?
Who can fight like a tiger
Or give you a kick in the eye?
A note
Yes I cheated a little. I wrote a poem. He just looked like he would speak in rhyme.
Don’t judge me!
Link to Friday Fictioneers over here and give it a try.

100 words.
Get going.
fun and just right !
Thank you.
Poems always count 🙂 Yours was delightful!
Thanks.
Thank you for writing a poem – at least, for writing a bouncy funny appropriate poem like this!
Thank you!
If it’s cheating writing poetry, I share that guilt many a times
Oh good. I wasn’t sure. Excommunication loomed.
Great Poem..
ps: What is that in the picture? lol
That my friend is entirely up to you.
I have to decide what is in the picture?
🙂 WHAT A JOB
Well I had to do it.
You did?
Well how come I have to re-name it?
lol 🙂
I thought that was great!
Thank you
Never apologize for writing something clever, darling. This reminded me of a storybook I had as a young girl growing up in Bichon-Frisse. My papa would make some of his famous Jell-o and read me stories of mythical creatures whilst my mother give me a mani/pedi.
Ah, a mani-pedi. Do you know I had to explain what that was to a man the other day? In this day and age?
I just loved that you rhymed savannah with banana. It made me giggle. As does the idea that someone would be in the dark vis a vis the mani/pedi.
I made an assumption on the American pronounciation of banana! Taking liberties. My daughter wants a mani/pedi birthday party. She also wants to invite boys. She is 7. I am concerned that the parents of these boys will feel I am undermining their masculinity.
so compromise… mani/pedis for the girls, brandy and cigars for the boys.
Victoria poetry is definitely not strange from Fictioneers. i thought it was cute and very appropriate as this creature has so many pieces that comprise the whole.
Thanks Joe.
Delightful. Kipling would have loved it.
That is very high praise! Thank you.
Like your poem.
Thank you
Much harder writing a flash poem. Credit where it’s due!
Loved the title too- I was initially tempted to ‘name’ the creature by combining names, but in the end I didn’t. I wonder how many we will see.
Thank you. Quite a lot, but strangely very few duplicates
I loved your poem. Nice job.
Thank you so much
a fantastic poem 🙂 well done
Thanks
Really nice poem. Loved it.
Thank you so much.
Lovely poem!
We call it a ‘gireletizelion’ – or Girellie for short, but I love ‘Elegitibra’ 😀
Girelli is a lot easier to say! And is had the whole speed of Pirelli behind it.
Not cheating at all, wonderful poem! “Savannah … banana …For who can reach as far below
Or as high in the trees as I?” Great stuff.
Thank you so much.
Your poem is so much fun! It reminded me of Ogden Nash’s poems. And I’m enjoying how the submissions this week are coming up with creative names for this unusual creature. I tried saying “Elegitibra” five times fast and failed miserably. Neat name!
I love Ogden Nash.He always makes me giggle. Him and Spike Milligan.
That is sweet.. 🙂
Thanks
the poetry lends itself nicely to this delightful tale (tail)
Thank you
Very cute, but in your first line did you mean trunk and not truck?
Indeed with edit.
Ah! This is delightful! 😀
Victoria, poems are perfectly legal! I’ve done them myself more than once. I loved this!
janet
Thanks, I wasn’t sure.
Believe me, probably every “rule” has been broken more than once, starting with the 100-word limit. 🙂
This is wonderful, I’m glad it’s a poetry format,. Your poem delights and entertains (always the goal with the written word). I like it a lot! 🙂
Thanks Penny. It seemed to warrant some whimsy.
On the contrary, dear, the poem works quite well! In fact, I love it!
Shew. Thanks. I was a bit worried I might get thrown off.
With that kind of talent, extremely doubtful! 🙂
No judgement here, except to say it was fantastic!! 🙂
Thanks John
Dear Victoria,
A poem isn’t cheating. Writing such a cute one…most certainly not.
Shalom,
Rochelle
Thanks Rochelle.
That’s beautiful. I love the word Elegitibra. Someday, perhaps, when genetic manipulation runs amok.
Cute poem!
Thanks.
